Beyond Decay Layover
During a special intervention at Takeover Beirut, I was invited to create an edible interpretation of GreenRoom, an installation by Artist Ieva Saudargaite Douaihi. Given complete creative freedom, I chose to explore what happens beyond the fear of decay — the transformation that occurs when we surrender to impermanence rather than resist it.
The experience unfolded as an edible landscape, starring nasturtium leaves woven with local flavors that spoke of place, change, and revelation. What began as concealment — a veiling of the truest self — evolved into a gradual opening, a blooming.
As the original nasturtium leaves in GreenRoom began to decay, they no longer masked what lay beneath; instead, they revealed it. Inspired by this delicate unraveling, the edible landscape portrayed a gradual journey — beginning in concealment, progressing into blooming, and ultimately surrendering to decay.
