I Witness Therefore I Am
I Witness Therefore I Am is a culinary performance exploring the Arabic language as a living structure through which reality is revealed. Drawing from Ibn Arabi's writings on ʿilm al-ḥurūf (the science of letters), the work approaches letters, sounds, and divine names not only as linguistic forms, but as carriers of cosmological and ontological significance.
Through the Arabic root ش هـ د, the performance unfolds as an exploration of witnessing, approaching the Shahada as both the impulse behind creation and the act through which creation is continuously sustained. Culinary processes become a mode of inquiry, allowing language to take material form through food.
Bringing together narration, food, and performance, the work invites audiences to encounter language as a sensory experience rather than a purely linguistic one.
